Since we are heading into the New Year...I'm posting about some of my favorite products that actually work & that I actually use. Recently, 2 people commented on how come I didn't seem to have fine lines or wrinkles? I've been using Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging cleanser cloths for the past 5 months & adore the product! I dislike taking off makeup at night...so I wanted something quick & easy. Who knew something so cheap would actually work?
However, if you are looking for any type of skincare product that addresses other skincare issues, I shop at Skincare RX online. K's doctor (Dr. Taylor) who is a cosmetic laser surgeon...has been working on her birthmark overtime & owns the site. I have nothing but total love for the work he does. I also use MD Forte for any type of breakout situation, La Roche-Posay for under eye issues, and Obagi.

This post is for my K or any other preteen girl. I don't know if you watch or even know about Jersey Shore, but this is Sammi from the show. I don't watch, but could not miss her hair, clothes & makeup of the "before & after" picture. Hello...she is gorgeous without all the makeup, tanning, hairspray & again...makeup, which brings me back to my 13 year-old.
If I would let K, she would leave the house with the hair & makeup of the "before" picture e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y. Let that sink in. Can you imagine seeing K at Harmon's in full hair & makeup?
K (unfortunately) believes this is what beauty looks like & no she isn't allowed to watch reality tv shows, such as the Jersey Shore. It all started this year when she entered 7th grade, where "every girl" is allowed to wear makeup. Yea, right. It's like I need a mom's-jr-high-anonymous-hotline-number just to get through each week! If it's not the clothes, hair or makeup talk...then it's the texting, tone of voice, wear a cardigan talk. I could go on & on, but I will spare you. Back to the issue at hand...true beauty should not be defined by reality tv. True beauty develops from the examples around us, which is why I'm grateful for K's yw leaders.

I'm finally back to blogging & have missed all of you terribly. I've received many emails while I've taken a break from blogging, but will answer them within the next week or so.
I feel like it's been forever, but here's a brief summary of what's been happening. When R updated my iphone some how (I know) he deleted almost all of my 300+ photos that I actually felt a pain in my heart, but now I'm over it. So here it goes...without many of the pictures.
K's finally in junior high! She decided to run for Student Gov and won...so that has been keeping her busy. K starting on a basketball team, is now worried about her hair (finally), and still has a major love for legos. Oh & she quit her violin lessons (out of protest...umm what???) & then promptly volunteered to play something in front of a large group. SO she has been teaching herself...I can hear what every mom is currently thinking...& I am thinking the same thing!

H & M (finally) opened in Salt Lake & I was invited to the Media Opening Night (thanks Mar), which was so fun and I was able to shop early. I took some really fantastic pictures that are now somewhere lost in the iCloud...

I've been dying over Alice + Olivia's spring 2012 line...totally loving it. However, we are still in winter & I'm loving all of the purple, grey, and black clothes that are on the market now. I went shopping with my bff on Thanksgiving...from 9 pm - 10 am the next morning. Had pictures, but somewhere in the iCloud...whatever.
Have you noticed everything starting to go on sale within the last two days or so? Hello...Anthropologie had a 50% off sale just yesterday! Em works at Anthro/friend recently found a skirt that I was dying for...thanks!
R was over in China for part or most of October & I'll be sharing some pictures shortly. Anyway, I'm tired & hear a bunch of pre-teens screaming in the back ground (K has a group of friends over) so it's time for me to go. Next post will be all about crafting, gifts or fashion! R & K ran a race last weekend with some other friends A & H...
R ran the 1/2 marathon and K ran the 5 K, which started around 11:30 pm...hence the Legacy Midnight Run...

We all went out for food afterwards & I didn't actually get to sleep until 4:15 am. I don't recall staying up this late...unless it's with Nicole for our yearly Black Friday sale. I was soooo tired. However, I started thinking that maybe I should try a 5k... and then I came back to reality & changed my mind.

So it usually went down like this, B or J would end up sending me a text to remind me about Book Group & I would plan to go. BUT, then I would get home from work & R would have a class or game and K would need help with something right at that moment for like 3 hours. So, my thing (Book Group) would end up on the bottom of the list. Hello...welcome to motherhood/marriage (I'm kidding...not really). Anyway, earlier this week I hosted Book Group in my backyard & by the end of the night (11 pm+) I had heard some really funny stories, ate carbs (should have stopped) & laughed a lot. Book Group was filled with intelligent, sassy, caring, humorous women. So, I've informed R & K that Book Group is moving back up the list. We will see if I make it next month...

Anyway...here it is: So I'm obviously having some kind of separation anxiety from K's elementary school because the other day I actually said that if we adopted a child, then I would be able to keep in contact w/everyone from K's old school & she/he could get K's old teacher. I know!!! Hello...I really need to focus on something else...like reality. So...in an effort to get back to my normal self, I'm doing a post about shopping. Of course the best place to start is Net A Porter's summer sale (which is practically over since this post is so late & I mean don't even bother to click on the link type of late). The best clothing deals are usually from August - mid September. I wait & then it's to my advantage as the consumer. Below is some information about usually markdowns, but things can change due to the economy.
Antropologie: markdowns are on Tuesdays. They have two semi-annual sales which are during summer & Christmas. Banana Republic: I've heard Mondays or Sundays are the usual markdown days. Barneys: Semi-annual sale happening now...starts in June. Bergdorf Goodman: same as Barneys. Forever 21: regular markdowns due to the high volume of mechanise. I've heard markdowns are on Mondays though. Gap: moves a lot of volume also, with markdowns on Wednesdays or at least they used to be. J Crew: is usually Tuesdays, but it's always wise to wait & buy during their online % off sales, which usually includes free shipping. I never buy anything from J Crew at regular price & the same with Anthro. Janie and Jack: I adore this store & they markdown on Thursdays. However, they clearance everything at the end of each season. Kate Spade: has a large sale at the end of each season & don't forget about the sample sale online...best deals ever, but you have to sign up for email notification. Gymboree: Mondays, but that was a while ago. Nordstrom: has the Women/Kids Half Yearly Sale w/the Men's that follows a few weeks behind. Target: Monday for kids & Tuesdays for women. The Outnet: currently has their summer sale happening & they have a fall sale also. The last, but not least is try also shopping at your local consignment or thrift stores. You can find some great deals & one of a kind pieces of clothing. I buy most of K's skirts from ebay. I love ebay & have found some fabulous deals. PS: with the 4th of July coming up...Target usually marks down 50% off during the first three days after the holiday, 75% the next three days & 90% off two days after, but again that could have changed due to a number of factors.

K's last week at Wasatch Elementary School ever...

Last week was full of memories, friends, volunteering, joy, friendship, love & fun. I took a ton of pictures, but only could post a few...
K at 6th grade graduation w/her teacher. Afterwards, a group of mom's & daughter's went out to lunch...these girls have been together since k...
Last day of school ever at Wasatch Elementary School...
K picked out her outfit for the last day, which she included a black cardigan sweater. However, she had to fix her skirt before she put the sweater on...

Later that night...back at the school for the end of the year school party...

K's party w/some of her friends & the others running around in the front & others playing basketball...it was a fun night w/lots of kids & lots of sugar, yelling, jumping & flashlight tag...

And her "thanks for coming" boxes she gave out that were almost finished. I just quickly snapped a picture before we made them look a bit sharper. In the end, K has attended the same school since K. We have major memories & will miss all the wonderful teachers & staff...who really knew K & loved her. They have been fun, patient, kind, giving, loving & she has grown to be the best K she could be...plus she learned to love-love math! She graduated, but in the process has made life long friends & so have I. Last week, was one of the happiest weeks ever!!!

I'm sure you didn't think I would have a post about incandescent light bulbs, but this has become part of my life. My basement is now the holding place for boxes & boxes of incandescent light bulbs. The picture above is deceiving because it looks like that's all we have...if only that was true. Ever since R learned incandescent light bulbs are going to be phased out & he will have to start using fluorescent...he's been on a buying frenzy. No really...frenzy is the only way to describe it. Trying going to Target w/your guy who ends up buying an entire (yes...entire) cart full of incandescent light bulbs. Then...when you check out...they have to scan each box one at a time! Do you know how long an entire cart takes to scan or how much money an entire cart costs? No...because you are not in a frenzy over incandescent light! Hello...this isn't a one-time event w/R. The last time he did this...K & I slowly walked away because the checker started asking us why we were buying soooo many boxes of light bulbs & then the people behind us started listening & so forth. I keep saying we need food storage, but he is insistent we need incandescent light. So...if Utah has a large earthquake at some point...we will only have hundreds of boxes of incandescent light to bargain with. I know.....

If I was a teacher...I would adore an apron as a thank you gift this year. It's all about the practical and pretty for me. I know...aprons have nothing to do with apples or a yellow school bus, but really does K's teacher need another bag with a huge yellow school bus on it or an apple eraser set? I think not & believe me...I've already given both of those above.

But, I love the apron above & the blue apron. I would gently fold the apron & tie a satin ribbon around it with a wooden spoon stuck in the middle. Or what would be even better is if K or I could actually sew the apron like this one below.

I've been using Latisse for about 8 weeks & it REALLY works. Hello...I'm Asian so I'm all about eyelashes & making them long & thick. Currently, I'musing Latisse off & on because my eyelashes actually started to grow too long. I've noticed a huge difference in length, but not so much with thickness. However, mascara solves that easily. You do have to continually use Latisse or as your eyelashes naturally fall out so will all the benefits, but that's ok. One bottle lasts a long time. You can extend your bottle by using your own eyeliner brush, which doesn't use as much as the applicators.

K's final 6th grade report was on youth volunteerism & she wanted to make candy bags to give out. She said the bags would increase/promote volunteering & she was trying to do her best, which of course I loved. However, I did started to wonder why she kept smiling as she was pulling bags & bags of red, white & blue candy into our cart. I know...a total lapse of judgement, but I was envisioning rows of 6th graders out raking leaves, mowing lawns, helping people cross the street & rescuing baby birds.
When I asked her how her oral report went-all she talked about was the candy bags! Hello...all the kids ate their bags within the first hour!!! I'm sure her teacher so loved us. Sooo...since it turned out to actually be partly/all about the candy...I've decided to help her along in doing "her best" and she's nowvolunteering this weekend to help a neighbor. Sigh.

The best bronzer on the market today is from Jemma Kidd & it's called Show Stopper Body Glow. The trick is to mix the body glow with a little bit of lotion as you apply it. I used to think Scott Barnes had the best body bronzer on the market, but it's totally expensive! You can buy Jemma's at Target & it's easy to use. However, Scott continues to be Jennifer Lopez's make-up artist (minus that big falling out they had a few years ago...I know total drama), but her skin looks fabulous & she says she uses his body bling. So I guess you could invest in his new Body Bling or take the more affordable route that I think gives a great result.

The Girls & I Am Number Four...

I've always been the type of girl that had to have girlfriends to hangout with or I'd go crazy. So dramatic, but true. See...I miss all the stuff that happens during the day/night & some weekends due to work, R's at class or having to study until forever, or K having something at night. So...we have to schedule time to hangout out. PS I'm looking for someone close by to teach me how to use my sewing machine. I'm picturing a really cute a-line cotton skirt that I can make, but first I have to figure out how to use the machine.

Anyway...in my mind it was between I Am Number Four and the Justin Bieber movie (my best pick) they laughed...and then we went with I Am Number Four, which I loved! You really should go see it, but remember that I'm easily entertained. Parts were scary, which I did spend time w/my eyes closed or hiding behind my hair, but I love-love scary & suspenseful movies!

Anyway...I spilled my drink down my coat (twice)
and dropped my popcorn in the hallway, but had a fantastic time! J asked if I wanted to go see Red Riding Hood....yes...scary!!! It looks really scary, but also a lot of fun!

I adore these princess cut diamond stud earrings which are from costo co. I know...from cost co., but they have the screw backs (love them) so I wouldn't lose them...ever. I can hear R now saying something like "...earrings or new tires."
A year ago, I bought almost the exact capelet above. R looked at me w/confusion & asked what I was wearing. Well you can guess what happened...I promptly returned it. He inserted the doubt (I blame him) & I was weak. Unfortunately, I still talk about the capelet I returned & fortunately he gets to hear all about what I could have worn with it over & over. Yes...she did it again. This time K fractured her finger playing basketball over the weekend. Don't worry though...she has broken, dislocated, fractured & broken more bones in her twelve years then two kids put together. She has seen many orthopedic surgeons...so many that she wants to be one when she grows up. I'm just hoping this is the last time for this coming year. Sigh.

Best picture on the web this week & I couldn't agree more. I'm not a fan of LeBron at all. Yes he can play ball...really play ball, but that isn't all that matters. I used to date a local (CA) baller/part-time model (if there is such a thing) and he used to say he'd have to watch his actions on & off the court due to the kids that would end up watching what he did. I cannot say the same for LeBron, who is on the same level as Terrell Owens in my book...which is enough said.

If you haven't seen any episodes of The Generations Project...you are sooo missing out. I recently received a call from the casting director, who is awesome by the way. Mr. J asked me many questions about who am I, what is my story & why I wanted to participate.

It ended up being life changing, which is hilarious because it was life changing in a sort of-I-don't-know-you-but-I'm-sharing-personal-details & suddenly-I've-figured-out-what-I'm-searching-for-kind-of-way.

By the end of the interview...I felt like I should have invited him over for dinner...you know? Or at least set him up with one of my fabulous friends. Hello...I shared personal stuff.

To make a long story short...I've decided to pull my application. However, please-please watch the show. It might change your life, like it did mine.

Hello...I lost my camera again. I know...I don't know how it happens so often. Our Thanksgiving was all about food, family, Legos, going out with friends, shopping, annoying each other, more friends, football & more snow.

The turkey actually turned out this year, but I finally realized I don't really like turkey! I don't know what it is, but I am just not a fan. I think I'm banning any future turkeys from our Thanksgiving.

R playing in a "turkey bowl" for like over an hour in cold-cold weather. Why? I know. K & I left & went shopping instead.

On Saturday I made 16 boxes of stuffing with celery & onions (hello...my eyes), 10 bags of frozen corn (yes...that is a whole stick of butter) to help feed the many hundred of people who came for the free Thanksgiving Feast at the Indian Walk-In Center in Salt Lake. I think we feed over 500+ people!

The whole experience of cooking large batches of food reminded me of when I volunteered a friend & I to cook the "graduation" dinner for the Boys & Girls Club a few years ago...I know. If you know me...you'd wonder why in the world I'd do that to myself & especially 75 people! It was a disaster & it's no exaggeration people. The day included tears off & on during the entire process, but needless to say here I was again volunteering myself to cook a large amount of food.
However, this time I was sure to volunteer for items I knew how to cook...frozen corn & stuffing, which turned out fabulous.

K came home today & had a letter addressed to her. She opened the letter & found "flat haley" from Mrs. Taylor's Elementary Class in VA.
They asked K to take "flat haley" around to different landmarks/places in our city & take a picture...this way the class will learn all about our state. Ohhhh this is going to be so exciting! What does K want? Hogwarts Castle...I know. I often get asked "are you sure" whenever I say she likes to play with Lego stuff or bouncing balls. I was talking to Katie G today & she said M wanted fake nails and make up...hello that's my dream list! I've always wanted my K to be that girlie-type girl, but she just isn't. You know the one that wants brushed hair and has to have a different ribbon every day? Well...let's just say I have collected a big box of ribbons waiting.

Back to M, I know exactly what fake nails would look best for & don't think I won't buy every kind I see!

I obviously do not have anything yet, but do need to get out and start looking. Although, I finally bought R one gift last week, which he already found & of course looked at. Who does that...unless you are like eight? Sigh.

-Rog was in charge of K & was in and out on Friday. Welcome to being a mother, which is part picking up/dropping off/rush back to work & then pick up/drop off all over again.
-Being a stay-at-home mom can be the hardest job at times, but is the best job in the entire world. Period.
-IKEA to look for a pink dresser for Katie. Cheap & easy...who doesn't love that?
-Cleaned & wondered out loud (mistake) what would happen if I just stopped. Rog mentioned the show Hoarders....okay I started again.
-Attended a birthday party for L who is 92 years old...I know!
-Reminded K to put sunscreen on her neck...for like the 58th time in one day.
-Watched enough football.
-Went out to dinner with The Romney's.
-Purchased tickets for Nicole & I to go see a concert of sorts. More to come...
-Read Amanda's blog & thought about how awesome she is...hello she's running 10 miles to train for a race. I can drive 10 miles in a heartbeat, but run that's a different story.
-Contacted by the casting director for The Generations Project...wish me luck.
-Thought about which craft retail show I want to attend in 2011 & of course it will be out of town! Whoo!
-Planning Mary's baby shower, with Jess & Nancy. I love babies!
-Adding to my list of everything I want to do before I die (I know...so dramatic) & finding ways to slowly start doing them.
-Thinking of a list of girls who I can offload a lot of K's gently used stuff on. No excuses from me this time.

Every Blooming Things is my favorite place to purchase flowers. My bff invited my family up for dinner the other Sunday to celebrate K's 12th birthday. I ordered flowers that were light green, pink, and of course with berries and moss. Who doesn't love berries and moss? However, I dropped in before closing time and they didn't have a lot left to work with. So they did a mix of fall w/some of the elements I requested (minus the ribbon with the dots...ah hum). Anyway...she loved it & I was happy. I love flowers.

K went to her last Halloween Carnival, since she's in 6th grade this year. She reused an old costume from two years ago & yes it's a little small, but at least I didn't have to buy another one. We did add lace to the bottom...so the dress would look longer. She started out wanting to be a pioneer (ok), then a dead pioneer that looked really dead (?), and finally right before we left last night she said she was going to be a doll.

K recently turned 12. Above are the boxes she gave away that included: Iwako erasers, a small box of raisins (yes you read that correctly...she almost had a heart attack when she saw those in the boxes...but something had to be healthy), Silly Bandz, some squishy eye balls and rats, one small candy bar, Play Doh (I know...so annoying but provides about an hour of fun), and a candy bracelet. So easy to do...just print your own labels and purchase the clear boxes from here in bulk or at your local store.

You know when life changes and you realize you have to drop something? Unfortunately, life changed and I wasn't able to keep up my blog. This is basically my last six months & what I should have been blogging about: my high school reunion, Rog ran some 24 hour team marathon, major job promotion, lost around 10 pounds, planned a surprise birthday party for my guy, Rog had the same cold for like three weeks...yes I was in hell, my eye lashes suddenly are longer thanks to Allie B, Katie had her first treatment for her birthmark on her neck & face (scary), forgot Katie's birthday & mailed her invites two days before her party...tacky, walked through a haunted village, Rog's car broke down, gave the worst speech at a convention probably ever heard, found the best product to wash my face, joined Facebook finally, saw my fall handbag & decided to pass it up...what growth I'm having, thought about going back to retail over the upcoming holiday season for fun, took a cooking class with Jess at the Viking Cooking School, have four girlfriends that are having babies like any day, bought some smooshy seat for the spinning class I'm going to start again like any day, planning a meeting with someone who has one of the largest import/export businesses in UT, and have to write my thesis like any day now or else.

You know the saying...you finally realize what you've missed once you don't...something...something? Well...I feel like that & I hope you can forgive me. Hello...Thanksgiving (stuffing is my favorite) and Christmas is right around the corner. I've actually started Christmas shopping early this year...or at least in my mind.

This is one of Katie's favorite things to eat...tin foil dinners. It's ridiculously inexpensive and easy. I know they look rather large, but all the vegetables cook down in the oven. This time I used all frozen vegetables (minus the potato), which was so easy...no chopping. I wrap the top with foil to make them like little packages & bake at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes.

Last night, I woke up at 3 am with major pain and found out I have a bladder infection...I know so not pretty in any way. So I've been home and totally out. I have a long list of "things to do" since I'm usually not home during the day and planned to go crazy on Friday getting them done & then we'd leave for a short trip. Hello...I have two baby shower gifts to deliver (the shower was two weeks ago...who's this late), two late birthday gifts, three thank you notes, etc. Well anyway, I sent Katie to Activity Days in the morning & then fell asleep. When I woke up around 2 pm where was Katie? You'd think I would know where my daughter is, but thanks to Amy (lifesaver) she invited Katie to play until 4 pm, which I went right back to sleep. We were supposed to go to Denver this weekend since we both have been working a lot, but I'd rather be sick at home vs. sick at a hotel even though I adore Denver.

I need to find a good waterproof liquid eyeliner. I know...I am one of those girls that relies on only liquid eyeliner vs. pencil. Lately, by about noon my current eyeliner has spread practically all over my face. You can guess how that looks.

I've heard that Stilla Waterproof Liquid Liner will stay no matter what, but hello I don't want to spend the money unless I hear it from another person. I've used high end to low end and still cannot find one that will stay all day or at least until 4 pm.

And while I'm on the subject...what happened to one of the best/low cost shampoos? Hello...where did my clarifying shampoo go? I've looked everywhere & cannot find it anywhere. This is a major problem. I'm the girl that called a certain store when I heard one of my other favorite shampoos was going to be discontinued and bought all the stock they had left. What am I going to do now?

If you were to ask me what my current guilty pleasure is...it's totally Jersey Couture. PLEASE don't confuse this show with Jersey Shore...I do have some standards you know. Jersey Couture is all about a dress shop, family & finding a dress that looks good on just about everyone. How could you not watch? I used to be in retail (ages ago) and I still get a rush watching them make a huge sale! Of course this show might not be for everyone, but it's totally for me.

I recently took a spinning class because I've been trying to get back to where I was before all my thyroid issues. So I decided to ask my friend Cyd go with me. We've been close friends for a few years & she's the director of Gold's Gym Health & Wellness...so of course she's the most fit person I know. Plus...she loves any type of exercise & is always up for anything.
In all honesty...I don't know why anyone would pay to do this for an entire hour (Roger had to buy me a bottle of Advil), but it was an amazing workout. I hurt all over & seriously couldn't get out of the car, but I think I could be hooked if the seat wasn't so annoying. However, I'm going again this coming week at 5:45 am. It's a great way to start you day.

Last night was all about dinner at one of my favorite resturants Trio with fabulous friends. I love-love going to dinner with a small group of friends. I like to mix and match my different groups because more often than not...they end up getting along & becoming friends! Serioulsy...that's the best because then you're with a group that you totally adore. Back to last night...I ended up seeing more than one person I work with at the same resturant. How often does that happen?

We recently went to Las Vegas for my birthday weekend...it was that or hiking in St. George (saved for early Sept). Why Las Vegas? I love everything about Las Vegas from the big hair (love it), shopping, restaurants, and all the people. However, Roger would rather pass...like the entire state. It's just not his thing, but he was a really good sport.
How can you dislike a place that has palm trees, sunny weather, and some of the best shopping in like a five mile radius? Plus you have some amazing restaurants.

Last night was Cooking Class & we had an a-m-a-z-i-n-g instructor. She made a number of homemade soups that were fabulous. Hello...soups that I can totally make & that taste really good. Case & point: Katie came up to help put away chairs & she had four bowls. Hello...she's 11 & doesn't usually want to have seconds on anything I make. No really. So the soup was amazing.

My cute Katie had her biopsy yesterday and was really brave. Just a few tears, but mostly happy it's over for now. She's left with small stitches that will be removed next week...hence the band aids she will be wearing for a bit (if you see her itching her neck make her stop).
